THIS IS THE LIVE CLASS ZOOM for all five classes: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82799062333

General CLASS Guidelines:

  • For clothing, go as sexy or as comfy as your mood dictates but... just be ready to move. Heels, flat shoes, sneakers or bare feet are all fine. If you need advice on dancing shoes, scroll down.

  • Before class, you will need to download Zoom. Here’s a link: HOW TO DOWNLOAD ZOOM

  • The classroom opens up 5 minutes before class starts so everyone can get situated.

  • In the last half of the class (classes 3-5), we will be using movement that involves long sexy opera gloves in class to practice striptease moments. These gloves are optional and it is FINE to mime the movements, but the gloves do help you feel sassy! Scroll down for suggestions on where to buy gloves.

GLOVES, SHOES, INSPIRATION, ETC.

During the second half of our class, we will practice removing long opera gloves. You can usually get a pair for around $15, and it is also completely fine to simply mime the movement!

If you want to buy gloves in person, Party City stores or any Halloween store will almost always several colors.

If you want to order online, here are some options (but please do pay attention to shipping dates- if you order soimething on Etsy from another country, it can take 3-4 weeks to arrive):

PARTY CITY ONLINE

AMAZON (US)

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES.COM

ETSY (PREPOPULATED SEARCH)

EBAY (PREPOPULATED SEARCH)

if you are a sexy human with fuller arms, here are a few wider glove options from HalloweenCostumes.com:

WHITE PLUS SIZE GLOVE

RED PLUS SIZE GLOVE

BLACK PLUS SIZE GLOVE

BLACK PLUS GLOVE (ON AMAZON)

I am a 2X and generally wear "standard sized" gloves (from the first list), but some of my students find plus sized more comfortable or easier to remove, so please go with your body's preference!

SHOE INFO:

You can wear whatever shoe you want, and you don’t need to wear super tall shoes - 2 inch up to 4 inch tall heels are pretty normal. If you plan to wear a heel onstage, I recommend practicing in it!

This is the shoe I wear to teach in (this is an affiliate link, you do not need to use it but I wanted to be transparent): TT Dancewear Rhinestoned 2.5

TT also has a lot of other style options on their website and you can choose shoes that are shorter or taller, and with a rubber sole or a suede sole. Here is their full site: TT Dancewear

FURTHER INSPIRATION:

Jo Weldon’s book The Burlesque Handbook contains extremely useful information on everything from how to choose a name to how to twirl tassels. I highly recommend it as a companion to your journey into burlesque.

The blog 21st Century Burlesque covers a lot of in the industry issues.

This Goodreads List is helpful if you want burlesque books.

Dita Von Teese has written several good books on burlesque costuming and makeup.

There are plenty of goodpodcasts out there, including the WEBurlesque Podcast and Angie Pontani’s The Bump N Grind.

If you are on Facebook, it’s a good idea to see if your local burlesque scene has a group (it will be called “Indiana Burlesque” or something similar). If you are on Instagram or TikTok, it might be worth digging around to see if there are shows and performers in your area that you can follow so you stay clued in about when local shows are happening.
